Our Remanufactured T56 Transmission Upgrades & Upgrades

Put simply, a remanufactured transmission is a used transmission that has been returned to a like-new condition. Each remanufactured T56 is built in our state of the art factory by skilled Certified technicians. They test everything from metal thickness to spring tension before the process begins. And every hard part” that doesn’t measure up to the manufacturer’s original specifications, gets replaced. By the time it’s finished, a reman transmission should perform exactly like a new one. Now lets take a closer look at what sets a Street Smart Transmission apart from the rest:

All Gears & Shafts Meet OEM Specifications

All of the gears and the main shaft inside each remanufactured T56 that we produce, is carefully inspected for cracks and tested for straightness. Any hard part that shows signs of wear or damage is immediately replaced.

Upgraded Seals & Gaskets

To increase longevity, every remanufactured T56 transmission gets upgraded seals and gaskets that are made from a stronger heat resistant material. This upgrade is especially important for severe service (towing, off-roading, performance driving), where heat buildup can be a serious concern.

Durable Bearings

All of the new hardened bearings in a remanufactured T56 transmission not only perform better under load. They also create less friction for reduced operating temperatures and a longer transmission life.

Fully Inspected & Dyno Tested

Every remanufactured Street Smart Transmission undergoes multiple inspections by Certified inspectors throughout the build process. Once complete, your newly remanufactured T56 transmission is dyno tested to break-in all of the new parts, and to ensure that everything works correctly prior to shipment. And speaking of, shipping is always Free, and you also get a 3-Year/Unlimited Mile Nationwide Warranty that covers parts and labor for repairs that are performed by any licensed repair shop in the country.

About the T56 Transmission

Back in the early 90s, Chrysler asked transmission supplier Borg Warner heavy duty 6-speed manual transmission for a new supercar that they were building. It would have a V10 engine that produced lots of torque, so the internals had to be very robust. To that end, this gearbox used constant mesh synchronized gears, tapered roller bearings, speed gear need all bearings, and internal stops rather than stop bolts inside of the shifter mechanism. The resulting T-56 transmission would debut in the 1992 Dodge Viper, and became one of the very first 6 speed manual transmissions on the market.

After receiving much applause for its performance in the Dodge Viper, General Motors decided to offer the T56 transmission as a no-cost option on the redesigned 1993 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and Pontiac Trans Am. It also found its way into a number of other exciting performance cars of the era including the Cadillac CTS-V, Ford Mustang Cobra, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Aston Martin Vanquish, and Pontiac GTO. There are a few differences in the T56 transmission depending on its intended application. For example the Dodge Viper T56 transmission had stainless steel synchronizers, whereas the GM and Ford versions used brass synchros. Nearly all versions used a hydraulic clutch, however the Mustang Cobra T56 transmission used a mechanical clutch with an 11 inch clutch this.

Remanufactured T56 vs. Rebuilt or Used

Reman T56 vs. Rebuilt T56?
Both are good options but the best option for you depends on the transmission problem, the year, make and model of vehicle, the mileage and the vehicle value. What kind of warranty coverage are you looking for? Remanufactured transmissions carry a longer, 3 year, nationwide warranty with additional upgrades while a rebuilt unit generally carries up to a 1 or 2 year warranty and upgrades vary from shop to shop.
Reman T56 vs. Used T56?
Buying a used T56 transmission may save you money. However, if the unit does not work properly after installed, you will more than likely have to pay the labor again for removal and reinstall of the transmission PLUS the freight to ship the transmission back to the salvage yard. The additional cost may be higher than installing a reman or rebuilt transmission–not to mention the extra downtime. Warranties for a used transmission is only 30 days, 60 days, 90 days or 6 months. Used transmissions, since there is no way to know how many miles are on them, may fail at any time.
