Remanufactured 09G / TF60SN Valve Body vs. Rebuilt or Used

Reman vs Rebuilt 09G Valve Body?
Both are good options but the best option for you depends on the transmission problem, the year, make and model of vehicle, the mileage and the vehicle value.
Reman vs. Used 09G Valve Body?
Buying a used 09G valve body is risky since it may already have the same problem and you will need to replace it again.

Volkswagen 09G Valve Body Problems & Solutions

The Volkswagen 09G transmission was actually designed by the Japanese firm Aisin Warner, then adapted to fit VW’s powertrain parameters. It’s most commonly found in the following models:

•Volkswagen Jetta
•Volkswagen Beetle
•Volkswagen Passat
•Volkswagen Rabbit

The internal configuration of the VW 09G varies, depending on the engine that it’s paired with. Some of these changes include the number of clutch discs, the number of planetary gears, the fluid pressure, and the size of the torque convertor. Because of its Lepelletier planetary design, this compact transmission is able to provide 6 forward gears, using only 5 shifting elements. When it was introduced, this gearbox was considered state-of-the-art. However, long term reliability soon became an issue, especially with the valve body. So let’s look at some of the most common VW 09G valve body problems, and figure out what you can do about them.

Common Problems with the Volkswagen 09G Valve Body
Although this Tiptronic equipped 6-speed automatic was used in some of VW’s most popular models. Numerous 09G transmission problems can be attributed to a faulty valve body, including:
•Hard 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 shifts
•Hard downshifting
•Flared shifts
•Shuddering and shaking

Once you’ve opened up the transmission, you’ll notice that because of its compact design, overheating can cause many of these Volkswagen 09G valve body problems:
•Failed Linear Solenoid
•Excessive bore wear
•Pressure Control Issues
•Stuck Valves
•Warped Valve Body

The Street Smart Transmission Solution
Most remanufactured valve bodies are built one at a time, or in small batches. In some cases, this type of valve body can last for a long time. However, it’s not uncommon to experience problems due to poor quality control, or overlooked problems with the core on which the reman valve body is based.

Street Smart Transmission on the other hand, doesn’t do small batches. We carry multiple variations of over 200 transmission families, and we have that remanufactured 09G valve body already wrapped up and ready to ship. But we don’t just crank them out in some haphazard manner. The engineers in our R&D department had to first develop ways to correct the inherent design flaws that were causing early 09G solenoid failure and overheating. So each SST reman 09G valve body is modified to improve fluid pressure control, and each solenoid is bench tested prior to installation. The valves and bores get upgraded as well, and multiple quality inspections are performed throughout the build.

Once the remanufactured 09G valve body is complete, it’s bench tested using an Superflow AXILINE Valve Body Tester. This state of the art machine is able to simulate real-world driving conditions, which allows our technicians to accurately tune the shift points and PR system. So you not only get a remanufactured 09G valve body that exceeds OE specs. It’s also backed by our 1-Year/No Hassle Warranty.
