Our RE5R05A Updates and Upgrades

► Tru-Flat process applied to case, valve body and pump prevents cross-leakage and delivers consistent performance.
► Completely remanufactured valve body, with new pressure switches and, when needed, speed sensors. All valve bodies are tested independently to verify proper operation prior to the dynamometer testing of the completed transmissions. **No Nissan dealer reflash or programming required.
► Remanufactured and improved torque converter tested for leaks, lockup, concentricity, and balance. Upgrades exceed OE requirements and eliminate the possibilities of front seal leaks, premature bushing wear, and vibration.
► All new, bushings installed in key locations to improve internal fluid flow control and fluid pressures.
► All bushings and machined surfaces are polished to a mirror-like OE finish of 15 RA or better.
► New radiator included free of charge, required to be replaced under warranty.
► Complete road simulation using a dynamometer testing program called C.A.R.S. (Computer Aided Road Simulation). Every transmission is cold and hot tested before shipment.

RE5R05A Vehicle Applications

How Many Variations of the RE5R05A?

There are many different variations (so we have over 60 different part numbers!). Each one for a different engine size (bellhousing) and varying electronic and solenoid systems for different years.

Only certain models will interchange with others, which is why we ask for your 17-digit VIN# when you order so we are 100% sure it is the matching unit for your vehicle!

Remanufactured RE5R05A vs. Rebuilt or Used

Reman RE5R05A vs. Rebuilt RE5R05A?
Both are good options but the best option for you depends on the transmission problem, the year, make and model of vehicle, the mileage and the vehicle value. What kind of warranty coverage are you looking for? Remanufactured transmissions carry a longer, 3 year, nationwide warranty with additional upgrades while a rebuilt unit generally carries up to a 1 or 2 year warranty and upgrades vary from shop to shop.
Reman RE5R05A vs. Used RE5R05A?
Buying a used RE5R05A transmission may save you money. However, if the unit does not work properly after installed, you will more than likely have to pay the labor again for removal and reinstall of the transmission PLUS the freight to ship the transmission back to the salvage yard. The additional cost may be higher than installing a reman or rebuilt transmission–not to mention the extra downtime. Warranties for a used transmission is only 30 days, 60 days, 90 days or 6 months. Used transmissions, since there is no way to know how many miles are on them, may fail at any time.

RE5R05A History

The 5R05, also called RE5R05A (Nissan part) or JR507E/JR509E (Jatco part), is a Jatco and Nissan Motors 5-speed automatic transmission, released in 2002, used in rear wheel drive or 4X4 vehicles with longitudinal engines.

Numerous Nissan vehicles equipped with the RE5R05A 5-speed automatic transmission as part of their powertrains have experienced premature transmission failure due to contamination of transmission fluid with engine coolant. The fluid contamination occurs due to failure of the transmission fluid cooler located within the radiator.

In order to assure complete elimination of engine coolant as a re-contamination source, we supply new radiators with each RE5R05A transmission sold.

New radiators are equipped with an upgraded transmission fluid cooler to assure against further fluid contamination. As with other transmission replacements, the cooler lines must still be flushed to remove any residual contaminants. Even the slightest amount of residual contamination will cause a repeat failure of clutch seals. The cooler lines must also be inspected for obstructions or other impediments to proper flow. Rusted or kinked cooler lines must be replaced. All rubber cooler lines must be replaced. Please refer to vehicle-specific repair guides, such as factory documentation, AllData, or Mitchell, for complete radiator R&R instructions.
